Edwards Gardens, Toronto

Edwards Gardens, Toronto, originally uploaded by mtlicq.

European settlement began in this area shortly after the War of 1812. Alexander Milne, a Scottish weaver, arrived here with his family in 1817. Milne's farm and mill operation prospered for over a century, expanding to 240 hectares in size. For many years, the watercourse passing through this park was known as Milne Creek.
In 1944, Rupert E Edwards, proprietor of Canada Varnish, Ltd, purchased the original 11 hectare Milne Homestead. Over the last 12 years Mr. Edwards Introduced many landscape features into the garden including a large rockery, ponds, rustic bridges, flower beds, and a 9-hole golf course.
Mr Edwards vision was to see the gardens become a public park. Accordingly, in 1955 Metropolitan Toronto purchased the property and since then, has maintained the beauty and original character of this unique landscape.

This park on Avenue Road was named after Canadian Writer Roberston Davies.

All of Toronto's municipal parks have this same design of sign.

Blooming Tree

Blooming Tree, originally uploaded by Melsky.

This is from exactly one year ago today.

I'll be going back to Dufferin Grove Park today, hopefully there's still some nice flowers on the trees. We had a big rainstorm last night so I'm not that optimistic. I was just getting ready to go out and take photos when the storm suddenly came up. My husband had gone out on a walk a little earlier when the sky was very clear and it seemed like the perfect balmy spring day and within an hour it was pouring and lightening and thunder.

Today it's cool with a light rain, could be good walking weather! Lets hope.

CN Tower from Trinity Bellwoods Park

I used to live near this park and I miss it. For most other stuff I prefer my new neighbourhood. But the park near my new house - Dufferin Grove Park - is on a hill and from it you can see busy Dufferin Street and the lovely Dufferin Mall parking lot. You never get that feeling of being away from the ugly things the way you do at Trinity Bellwoods.

Path through the Park

Path through the Park, originally uploaded by Melsky.

This is Trinity Bellwoods park, between Queen and Dundas streets. I used to live near there and this park is one of the few things I miss from that neighbourhood. It's a large park with lots of trees and you can really feel like you are out of the city for a few minutes as you stroll through.

I live near Dufferin Grove park now. That one is a bit smaller and it's elevated so you can always see and hear the Dufferin Street traffic. It's still a nice park. I'm glad it's right on my way to the library so I walk through it a couple of times a week.

I took this photo at dusk and modified it with Picasa, which is Google's image software. I wanted to take a lot more photos but it was raining and I was on my way to a friend's house for dinner.

Queen's Park

This is a park in a very central part of Toronto. It's where the Ontario legislature meets, though not right on these benches. They have a building.
