College and Bathurst

This photo was taken from the streetcar. You can see the reflections.

It's very Toronto to me, with the parking lot on the corner, brick buildings old and new, a hot dog/sausage/street meat stand and a guy on a bike.

Balfour Books

Balfour Books, originally uploaded by Melsky.

A fascinating book store on college street. They have a lot of the same types of books I used to get in the free box or thrift stores back in the 80s and 90s, all cleaned up with shiny plastic covers on them.

More Condos?, originally uploaded by Melsky.

I think these are condos, being built near Yonge and College. Building, Building, Building! I have never seen more building going on than I see here in Toronto right now. But I hear it's going on just about all over North America.

Parkdale

Just a few views of Parkdale from Queen Street:

Parkdale Stores

Stores on Queen in Parkdale area of Toronto

99 Cent Zone

99 Cent Zone, for when the dollar store is just too expensive!

Queen Bargain Mart

Queen Bargain Mart

Parkdale Posters

Posters for Silverchair, Aerosmith, Just for Laughs festival, Korn, and Evanescence. I love the texture of the cement in the old buildings above the posters. This is Queen and Jameson.

Vintage Ad #319: The Hotel Toronto Deserved?

This Hyatt Regency is now the Four Seasons Toronto and is frequently plagued by mobs of celebrity stalkers during the film festival.

Caribana Toronto 2007 2/2

This footage is kind of fun, despite the many security guards who get in the way of viewing the dancers.

Caribana Toronto 2007

This one had good shots of the dancers pulling the big floats behind them that kind of look like peacock feathers.

Caribana Parade Toronto Canada 2007

Guess what? I didn't make it to Caribiana today. I went to the gym this morning, and then when I came home I did some stuff and then fell asleep. When I got up I meant to go but I looked on the net and all of the festivities were over. I missed the Caribana Parade! But we went out on a long walk anyway, and though I missed the parade with all the people in costumes we saw tons of people that were in town for Caribana. What a crowd!

It's good that I have flickr for photos. I took a lot of photos tonight but none of them were really "caribana" type photos.

Toronto from the Gardiner Expressway

Toronto from the Gardiner Expressway, originally uploaded by Melsky.

There's a whole series of these sort of living billboards by the side of the freeway. All the rest of them are corporations. You can see them from the GO train too.

Wakestock 2007: Deftones - My Own Summer (Shove It)

Goldfinger Fiasco at Wakestock 2007 in Toronto

Goldfinger yells at security at the Wakestock festival on Toronto island. I wasn't there but I heard about it. I miss a lot of things lately. I am planning on going to Caribana this weekend so I don't have to live vicariously through the internet all the time.

No Right Turn

No Right Turn, originally uploaded by Melsky.

Here's a photo of snow, like I wish we would get right now. It was so hot today, and very humid. Worse was the smog though, my eyes have been burning all day. I didn't walk that much but I took my umbrella so the sun won't get on me, and people stare at me like I'm a freak. Yes, I know it's not raining, but I am trying to keep the sun off me. I put on tons of sunblock but I start sweating the second I start walking and I have learned the hard way that I can't rely on sunblock.

I much prefer winter to summer. This summer has been pretty easy to deal with so far. July was cool and mild but it seems like August is making up for it with a vengeance.
